FOOTBALL: A BEGINNER’S GUIDE

Role: Art direction, Design

Client: Callisto Media

I dislike football so when I received this assignment I was not thrilled. However, I researched it, and developed a basic understanding of it. I actually like it now! Just a little though! When watching the game I noticed more of the visuals vs the technicalities of the game. One of the few things I caught sight of was the players speed and what that did to the colors they wore as they ran across my screen. I wanted to see how I could mimmic that in a medium such as print, which was static. Yes, I used players that displayed movement, but I wanted to create movement around them that they could live harmoniously with. So I did that in both options you see here. The top one was my first pitch but it was deemed a bit difficult read. So I created another version, the one below, still with my original strategy and it was so well received! I used that pattern throughout the interior when we had space for it and when the stock photos needed a little umph!
