I have to admit when I received this assignment I thought “OMG I hate camping!” I mean dealing with the constant mosquito bites, lugging stuff everywhere, walking long distances to use the restroom… I knew this was going to be a challenge! Ha! However, I dug right in and learned as much as I could to do this book justice. It is nature after all! Reading through the manuscript I saw how charming this world is and how passionate people are about it. I was so happy to collaborate with the illustrator, Clare Owen. She gave this book the textural quality I was looking for all and made the foods featured look desirable which is not easy to do in illustration mode!
