GO, GO, CONSTRUCTION TRUCKS!
Role: Art direction, Design
Client: Callisto Media
At the time I received this assignment I was immersed in the truck and transportation world with my son. I would read to him and often imagine what I would do if I had the opportunity to work on a truck book. I immediately went to color! Why no pinks and purples? Color stereotypes have driven me up a wall for years but when I had my son it was shining in my face constantly - blue is for boys and pink is for girls! These books were sending a message to kids and parents that perpetuates the ideals of the fashion industry that have no basis in anything factual. So I added pinks and purples to this book and pitched it to the team. At first there was resistance. Then I talked though it with them and approached their perspective with curiosity and they eventually got on board! I created the branding for this series and worked with the other designers who created the following books in the series. I developed a look and feel inspired by the Russian Constructivism era to give more personality to the stock photography we had to use.
